Visit from the Bishop of St Albans

Hi all,

Thrilled to be able to tell you that the Crescent is to be visited by the Bishop of St Albans at the beginning of March (5th) to see members staff and trustees and find out more about the work we do. The event will be covered by local press, but if you would like to come along on 05 March to meet the Bishop please let us know.

Work on the fundraising appeal at the House of Lords is gaining momentum too and we expect the event to be towards the end of this month with more to follow, Lord Rennard has kindly agreed to help with this. More invites have been sent and expect there to be even more notable people supporting the appeal to be announced shortly.

Please watch this space for more announcements very shortly…

Lord Rennard, Lord Fowler, The Bishop of St Albans and Lady Verulam

Hi all,

Overwhelmed by support received in the last week from some very influencial people who have agreed to help us with our fund raising appeal, a copy of the appeal brochure will be available shortly in printed form, and will be posted here too.

Statements in support have been received from the Bishop of St Albans, Lady Verulam, and Lord Fowler recently for inclusion in the appeal documentation, with Lord Rennard, former Chief Executive of the Liberal Democrats, offering to assist in hosting the event which is expected to take place at the House of Lords.

Lord Fowler in particular has said;

“I fully support the work by the Crescent in St. Albans for people living with HIV, their partners, families and friends. Over the last nine months I have been chairman of a Select Committee of the House of Lords on HIV in the United Kingdom. This is a crucial health issue and organisations like the Crescent totally deserve our support.”

Lord Norman Fowler

Former Secretary of State for Health

Chair,  House of Lords Select Committee on HIV and Aids in the United Kingdom

We are extremely pleased to have so much support for our appeal, please watch this space, more news will be announced shortly on this.

Our Patron CJ de Mooi is also raising funds for us by running the Hastings Half Marathon on 25th March and also hosting a charity pool tournament event in Telford on 24th of February where proceeds will be shared with the Against Breast Cancer charity. More details on these events to follow, see also http://www.demooi.co.uk/projects.html

Keep watching this space, more to follow,

Thanks for your ongoing support,

The Crescent Team

Thanks for your support in 2011, we hope that with your help 2012 will bring a more secure future for the Crescent. We are still battling the decision to remove our funding and seeking alternative sources to keep us going. Our fight is not over yet, but we are making progress thanks to the support we have received so far.

Please don’t forget us and if you get an opportunity to let someone who may be able to help know about our fight to stay open please do!

Don’t forget you can now donate online via paypal on our website and also via “Just Text Giving” texting CRES19 followed by an amount (£1,2,3,4,5 & £10 maximum) to 70070. Every penny of a donation sent by text goes to supporting those living with HIV in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and surrounding areas.

Sir John Lawes School Raises Funds For The Crescent

Dear all,

Please join us in thanking the pupils of year 11 life skills class and their teacher, Daibhid MacCann, of Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden who raised over £420 for the Crescent, and presented several assemblies to pupils on HIV/AIDS throughout the term.

Absolutely outstanding work, and a real credit to the school, thank you so much!

A group of pupils and Mr MacCann visited the Crescent recently to present the cheque and learn more about the work we do, and we very much look forward to working with the school in the new year on further projects

You can read the Herts Advertiser report on the pupils work here http://tinyurl.com/6s4wvud

World Aids Day Collections & Awareness Events

Thank you to all our brave volunteers who braved the cold yesterday in St Albans and Harpenden to raise awareness for World Aids Day and HIV in general.

As a result we managed to get a huge number of people wearing ribbons and some kind souls  made donations which now brings our World Aids Day fundraising to almost £3500 which is an absolutely amazing amount,

Thank you all so much, and please remember to take a minute today to remember those we have lost to HIV/AIDS in the last 30 years. With your help we can beat this virus and stop it spreading, but only with your help, please do whatever you can to get the message out to people that they should get tested, and that safe sexual habits are the only way.

Remember that people living with HIV deserve, and need, as much love, respect and care as everyone else. HIV is not someting to be afraid of, but it is something to fight, and to protect yourself from. This can only be done by removing the stigma that surrounds it, and that means education, so spread the word !!

We are contributing also to the awareness event at St Albans Abbey all this week until Monday 5th December, manned by staff and volunteers, so come along to find out how you can help beat the stigma, and defeat HIV now!!

Thank you
