World AIDS Day Red Run in Victoria Park London 26/11/17

Hi all,

Calling all joggers, runners, athletic people, non athletic people, ramblers, in fact anyone who would like to take part in  either 5k or 10k run through Victoria Park in  London for World AIDS Day

How would you like to take part in an annual charity run and raise money for the Crescent at the same time?

The Red Run is an annual event, organised by Positive East, designed to raise awareness of HIV, to mark World AIDS Day (01 December) and also raise funds for HIV charities across the UK. It is one of the UK’s largest World AIDS Day community fundraising events and since it began in 2008 over £200,000 has been raised for HIV support charities like the Crescent.

Last year over 600 people took part !

This year the run will take place on Sunday 26 November in Victoria park, east London and you can choose either a 10k or 5k route. Everyone is welcome to take part, all ages and abilities, the course is relatively flat with very little incline or decline and is accessible for wheelchairs.

Registration starts at 11am and the race begins officially at 12.15, you can also have your results sent by text to you.

On the day there will be entertainment, hot drinks, a BBQ, mulled wine and mince pies, sections of the AIDS memorial quilt will be on display too.

How do I register?

It is very easy, just go to http://www.redrun.org.uk and click on “register now” You will then be asked to choose either a 5k or 10k course and which charity you would like to run for (The Crescent)

Registration is open now and closes on Thursday 23rd of November.

The event is supporting 28 charities across the UK this year and this is our first year taking part in this event so If you feel able please do register, help us to keep helping those at risk in our community !

If you prefer to donate directly please visit our donations page at http://www.thecrescent.org.uk/donate

Thanks again for your support,

More events coming up this month and next as we move towards World Aids Day

Dear all,

Apologies for the delay in updating the blog, things have been very busy of late. We have a number of exciting events coming up in the next few months.

First is a charity cake baking competition with the wonderful Bakehouse St Albans as part of the Harpenden and St Albans Food festival this month. Are you the next budding amateur baker in the district? Think you bake the chocolatiest chocolate cake in the city? The best biscuits in town? If so, why not enter for your chance to be one of 20 bakers competing each day.

See the Bakehouse website for more details and an application form http://www.localbakehouse.co.uk/bakeoff/4590388035 Each day from the 27th of September a charity will be the nominated recipient of funds raised at the event as cakes submitted will be sold after the judging process with proceeds going to the charity of the day. We will be taking part on the 29th of September so grab that self raising flour and whisk up a marvel for us if you can !

On the 14th of October there will be another fashion show with the fabulous Chloe James Lifestyle store at the Cote Brasserie in the High Street in St Albans from 7.30pm. Tickets will be on sale shortly from Chloe James store at 12 The High Street 01727 843431 http://chloejameslifestyle.co.uk/ or email enquiries@chloejameslifestyle.co.uk Always a very popular event !

On the 5th of December we will be having another busking day and awareness event for World Aids Day. This will be at the clock tower in St Albans High Street as before, A free event for all. A full running list of performers will follow shortly but do make time to come along on the day if you can. More details will be published as we finalise the running order but we expect that the event will run from 11am to around 4pm. If you would like to help out on the day with collections or information distribution please do let us know on 01727 842532 or email info@thecrescent.org.uk.

We are also pleased to see that Barnet Council are now offering a postal HIV testing service very similar to ours, it is a pity that Herts County Council won’t fund this here, and makes it all the more imperative that we raise funds to keep going. Please if you can come along to any of the events in the next few months we would be very grateful. Without your support and generosity we cannot do what we do!

As ever thanks for your support

Stand Tall Get Snapped – An Opportunity To Meet Those Involved !

The Crescent is proud to be working with the Stand Tall get Snapped project, here is a chance to find out more about that, and also about those living with HIV, directly from the people affected by it.

Stand Tall, Get Snapped 30th June 2012

When you think of HIV, what images come to mind? Blood… Doctors… Maybe that big 80’s tombstone…

Not the people themselves?

Well – here’s your chance to meet them

Speaking at 12 noon, 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm on June 30th at the 56 Dean Street Clinic, Soho

You will have a chance to interact with, and ask questions of, four of the participants involved in the project, with a special contribution from our Master of Ceremonies, Rob Anderson, Chairperson of Body Positive Belfast, http://www.positivelifeni.com

The individuals selected represent an excellent cross-section of the HIV community in terms of age, race, and length of time living with the infection

Situated in the Community Room of the clinic, with free refreshments available, the speakers will discuss their experiences living with HIV, followed by a Question and Answer session with each

This event was initialised by London-based photographer Edo Zollo, http://www.edlondonphotography.co.uk, as part of his photography project, ‘Stand Tall, Get Snapped: 30 HIV+ People’, and is brought to you in collaboration with the 56 Dean Street clinic, http://www.chelwest.nhs.uk/services/hiv-sexual-health/clinics/56-dean-street/56-dean-street, as part of the World Pride Festival, taking place in London this summer, http://www.pridelondon.org/
