World AIDS Day Events 2019

Hi All,

How time flies! It will soon be November and World AIDS Day is just around the corner!

To mark the Day we will be holding another of our famous “Busking Days” at the Clock Tower (adjacent to “The Boot” pub and High Street at the bottom of Market Place) from 11am to 3.30pm on Sunday 01 December. There will be a whole host of talented local artists performing on the day to raise awareness and funds for us, so please do come along to enjoy their music !

However to start things off we will be holding an awareness and fundraising event at St Albans City Station from 7am to 7pm on  Monday 25th November ,so you can all get a free red ribbon in readiness for World AIDS Day on Sunday 1st December! You can also find out more about HIV and our work in the community at the same time, as well as help us with any spare change you may have!

On the Monday following World AIDS Day (02 December) we will be holding a similar event at Harpenden Station from 7am to 7pm distributing red ribbons and information to all.

We very much look forward to meeting you at one (or more) of our events.

Thanks as ever for your continued support,

The Crescent Team

Apologies for being so quiet on here of late, but don’t worry we haven’t gone away. We are still busy supporting our members and raising aware ness of #HIV in the community.

The good news is our Busking Day is back for World AIDS Day this year. Sunday 01 December we will be at the Clock Tower in St Albans High Street from 11am as usual with our lovely buskers all donating their time and talent to raise funds for us.

More details will follow shortly, including a list of artists performing on the day. We look forward to seeing you there!

World AIDS Day Events Last Weekend & a New Patron !

Dear All,

A fantastic weekend of events, On Friday we managed to get a huge number of commuters to take Red Ribbons to commemorate World Aids Day, also we collected a very substantial sum from those very kind folk during the day. We were honoured to be joined by our new Patron, Alex Mayer MEP who helped collect and distribute ribbons with us in the afternoon.

An article in the Herts Advertiser about our new Patron and our World AIDS day events here http://www.hertsad.co.uk/news/st-albans-hiv-charity-the-crescent-holds-events-for-world-aids-day-1-5302214

Our Busking Day on Saturday was similarly successful, we had many interesting conversations about HIV and the current issues and raised much awareness with over 1000 ribbons distributed on that day alone.

On Sunday our Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings was similarly busy, so much so that we will be back again on 17th December for another Sizzle at Bunnings in Griffiths Way !

A huge thank you to all who helped with the events, performed at the busking day and distributed ribbons. Most importantly thank you to all those who took a ribbon, donated and those who stopped to find out more about HIV and the Crescent’s work

We simply cannot do what we do without you !

Thanks as ever for your support

Hi all,

Calling all joggers, runners, athletic people, non athletic people, ramblers, in fact anyone who would like to take part in  either 5k or 10k run through Victoria Park in  London for World AIDS Day

How would you like to take part in an annual charity run and raise money for the Crescent at the same time?

The Red Run is an annual event, organised by Positive East, designed to raise awareness of HIV, to mark World AIDS Day (01 December) and also raise funds for HIV charities across the UK. It is one of the UK’s largest World AIDS Day community fundraising events and since it began in 2008 over £200,000 has been raised for HIV support charities like the Crescent.

Last year over 600 people took part !

This year the run will take place on Sunday 26 November in Victoria park, east London and you can choose either a 10k or 5k route. Everyone is welcome to take part, all ages and abilities, the course is relatively flat with very little incline or decline and is accessible for wheelchairs.

Registration starts at 11am and the race begins officially at 12.15, you can also have your results sent by text to you.

On the day there will be entertainment, hot drinks, a BBQ, mulled wine and mince pies, sections of the AIDS memorial quilt will be on display too.

How do I register?

It is very easy, just go to http://www.redrun.org.uk and click on “register now” You will then be asked to choose either a 5k or 10k course and which charity you would like to run for (The Crescent)

Registration is open now and closes on Thursday 23rd of November.

The event is supporting 28 charities across the UK this year and this is our first year taking part in this event so If you feel able please do register, help us to keep helping those at risk in our community !

If you prefer to donate directly please visit our donations page at http://www.thecrescent.org.uk/donate

WAD 2016 & Bunnings Sausage Sizzle and Cake Sale 2017

Hi All,

Sorry to have been so quiet, so much going on so little time to update our blog ! Where to begin ? Firstly to report that our World Aids Day events in Luton and our busking event in St Albans City went very well indeed. We displayed the Stand Tall Get Snapped project again in December 2016 for WAD in conjunction with the Luton NHS and third sector services at the Carnival Arts Centre. The exhibition was again well received by all who attended and our regular busking event in St Albans City Centre on 03 December raised over £2000! An amazing result indeed and we are truly grateful to all those who took part, performed and held collecting buckets for us on the day and of course immense thanks to those wonderfully generous individuals who made donations as ever!

For the Christmas period we had a Christmas tree outside our building throughout the season, loaded with condoms and info packs for people to take as they passed the building day or night. This seems to have been universally popular and so we will do the same again next year for sure.

Moving onto 2017 we were pleased to have been chosen by Bunnings (the new Australian owners of Homebase) be part of the launch of the first UK Bunnings stores. The two former Homebase stores in St Albans are the first stores to reopen as Bunnings. The company have a great interest in supporting the community and working with charities and groups to help them achieve their objectives. So far Bunnings have helped us enormously by redecorating our therapy, counselling and treatment room and supplying equipment to help us with our work.

On the 18th of February as part of the ongoing celebrations we will be hosting the “SausageSizzle” and cake sale at the branch in Griffiths Way St Albans AL1 2RJ from 9am to 4pm. All proceeds from the sale will come to us so please do come along, buy a sausage from the BBQ or a cake from the stall and help us keep helping those in the community, and check out the great deals at the UK’s newest home improvement and DIY store too!

Also from the 15 to 17th February we will be hosting another exhibition of the Stand Tall Get Snapped Project in the main reception area of  the Luton Campus of Bedfordshire University, keep watching this space as more events are coming up and thanks as ever for your support, we really do appreciate it !
